We offer Dancing Together as an integrated expressive arts system. Children and adults dance and play creatively together and alone, with partners and with the whole group.  Moving in different ways, developing a sense of rhythm, using their imaginations and expressing their uniqueness to the rhythms’ and melodies from around the world.   The sessions are playful, creative, vibrant, adventurous and fun!

Each session last for around 45 mins and is based on an adventure theme of music, dance and games with a strong focus on creativity and children’s expressive and artistic skills. Our approach draws on the system known as Biodanza for Children created by psychologist, anthropologist and artist Dr Rolando Toro and the High/Scope approach, both of these systems are widely practised internationally and are supported by research.

Research has shown that when children and adults join together to play and dance they are integrated in a way that increases the bonds of intimacy and trust between them. Evidence also suggests that when children engage in creative dance activities they gain some significant physiological and psychological benefits .

During 2007, research was undertaken to measure the outcomes of a 10 week programme using Biodanza as the approach offered to 348 children across various regions of the UK - Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth.

Assessments showed that the children gained the following benefits from participating in these programmes:

Physiological assessment showed
Increased lung capacity (more oxygen into the body)
Increased flexibility (which helps to prevent injuries to muscles and joints)
Increased aerobic capacity (they were measurably fitter)

Psychological assessment showed
Increased self esteem
Greater intrinsic motivation- i.e. engaging in activities and completing projects because they enjoy them instead of seeking rewards from others
Positive attitudes towards dance

High Scope research has shown that the ability to feel, express, and maintain steady beat and related movement and music abilities are related to a child's early success in school.
